City Walks with Kids

I was at Marshall's the other day with a list of a few supplies that I needed.  New shoes were kind of on the list, although I don't really need new shoes.  No, more importantly, I needed supplies for a basket that I am putting together for my school's carnival (more on that later).  And most important, I needed to replenish my supply of thank you cards.  I love places like Marshall's and T.J. Maxx for this. (Did you know that in the U.K. they call it T.K. Maxx?  Weird, but true.)  You can get a good amount of beautiful little cards for next to nothing.  Especially if you look at the clearance stuff.  I had told my students that I would be going out to buy supplies for our class basket, and that I needed to buy more thank you cards while I was out, and one of my very wise little 5th graders said something that struck me as so true- she said something about how nice it was to need to buy more thank you cards, because that meant you must have had a lot of people doing very nice things for you.  And you know what?  She is so right!  As a teacher, I try to write thank you cards often, especially to my students.  Whether they (or their parents!) bring me something special or so something special or especially sweet, I feel it is the least I can do to jot down a quick thank you.  The kids seem to enjoy getting the notes, and I enjoy taking the time to write out a sincere note of gratitude.  I also hope that maybe that little bit of etiquette will rub off on my students and will inspire them to write their own thank you notes when the time comes.
Anyway.  So not what my post started out to be.  I went off on a tangent.  I apologize.  What I was getting at was that while at Marshall's, I couldn't help but picking up a little something extra.  It was only $3 and one of those things that I just wanted

I had wanted this one on London before, but couldn't find it when we were over there.  (I still want it!)

Of course, there are adult versions, too.  I'm just a sucker for the
graphic art on the kid's versions.
Available here.

There are numerous versions from this particular brand that are geared for the average audience, but only a few that are specifically for kids.  I want them all!  You can find them all over the place, including Chronicle Books.
